Well, Amazon has officially brought us into the future with its latest innovation, announced this week.

The Amazon Astro, a household robot powered by Echo & Ring technology.

This new innovative robot is essentially a beefed-up Echo device that is able to roll around your house but also is more than that with the addition of new features also announced along with the product.

The Amazon Astro is the culmination of Ring and Echo technology, making this both an entertainment source and a real-time security robot.

Amazon Astro’s security features

Since Astro is based on Echo technology, users will be able to tell Astro anything and it will work just like any Alexa device — with some exceptions.

Not only will it tell you what you want to know (ex. math answers, facts, etc) but it can be commanded to go check on certain rooms, deliver messages to certain people in the household, and the robot will actually deliver messages and calls back to you.

While away from home, Astro will patrol the house and check for unfamiliar people or noises and report them to you just as the newer Echo Show’s have been able to do but with more flexibility.

While Roomba and other vacuum robots have been patrolling houses for dirt for years now, Astro is equipped with ultra-accurate navigation software and hardware to make sure that traveling around the house doesn’t cause any issues.

For those that value privacy, Astro is highly customizable and can have its microphones and camera turned off with the tap of a button. Of course, in the Astro app, the boundaries of the robot can also be adjusted so that areas that are off-limits can be set.

In addition to everything included in the base model (which is already amazing) Astro can be customized further with new products like a cup holder, a dog-treat thrower, and more already planned for release.

Amazon has truly taken a step into the future with this robot, starting the robot revolution.

Soon, every household will have an Astro device just as every household has adopted Alexa into their household over the last decade.

Right now, Astro is available by invitation only and will retail for $999.99.
